Scenario-based questions
Does certificate expiry make a record unverifiable?
Do not decide from the current expiry date alone. Evaluate signatures, timestamps, status data and preservation history under the relevant time and policy. Reports identify scope and missing material.
Can a digest recover the original?
No. The owner retains exact bytes and source relationships. Missing bytes or decryption access can block verification or hash-tree renewal.
Can unsigned records be preserved?
Existence and integrity evidence can be designed for unsigned data. It does not automatically establish authorship, truth or signing authority. Scope is fixed in the profile and acceptance.
Does importing old data prove its historical creation date?
Not automatically. Separate source metadata, receipt time and actual historical evidence. A timestamp generated today cannot be described as having been generated on the document date.
What happens when a TSA or algorithm changes?
Assess the current chain, policy, reread access and risk window; select appropriate renewal. Keep before/after evidence and verification results without changing old bytes to force a match.
May the source be deleted after export?
Not automatically. The recipient checks the exact scope and acknowledges it; retention, all holds and disposition authorization remain independent.
Does notary in LTANS mean legal notarization?
It is terminology in the technical service family concerning data evidence. The website does not use it to claim replacement of legal notarization or legal conclusions for records.
Why can a successful job return INDETERMINATE?
A job records execution completion; outcome evaluates evidence. A completed report may identify missing trust material and insufficient grounds rather than execution failure.
